1964 Factory Roadster
Prototype
When GM pulled the plug on racing the Grand Sport Coupe in 1964,
the three Coupes were sold off and the remaining two Roadsters were
apparently scheduled to be destroyed!
Luckily, these beautiful and highly potent Roadsters survived, though
they weren't seen until 1965 when one appeared at a Notre Dame
University auto show. The press at the time mused, "Just think what a
Grand Sport equipped with one of Chevrolet's new 427 NASCAR engines...
would do." A very fortuitous statement indeed!

It is interesting to note that while Chevrolet never officially
participated in racing the Grand Sport Coupes, a number of the body
and mechanical modifications applied during their short racing career
made their way onto the Roadsters. The photos above were taken at the
factory on April 2, 1964, soon after the cars were completed.
