Francois Cevert scored his first and only Grand Prix victory at Watkins Glen in the United States Grand Prix in October 1971. Cevert had been Jackie Stewart's team mate at Team Tyrrell since 1970 and would remain Jackie Stewart's team mate until his fatal accident in a practice crash at Watkins Glen in October of 1973. In 1971, Cevert finished third in the World Championship points and stood on the podium in the majority of the races that he finished. Francois also drove his Tyrrell 002 for most of the 1972 season before appearing, for the last time in this chassis at the Italian Grand Prix in September of that year.
